A terrible fire accident took place at Savar at about 5 p.m yesterday and gutted Apex Garments, a large readymade garments factory. The fire originated from an electric short circuit in the factory. It swiftly spread out and destroyed the factory.

The local people have said that there was a sudden hue and cry. The people living nearby rushed to the spot. They came with gunny bags, water barrels etc. They started working with unique bravery. They tried their best to put out the fire but could not bring it under control. Suddenly the fire brigade came to the spot. The fire fighters started working. After a while they were able to extinguish the fire.

According to factory sources, ready made garments of about 3 crore taka, 550 sewing machines and all the burnable things were burnt into ashes. Then people were injured as they jumped out from the window of the factory room. They were taken to hospital for treatment.  The police came to the spot soon and filed a case with the police station in this connection. A three member committee was formed for investigation and was requested to give the report in detail within seven days.
